Question: Need help with possible fake debt collector!?
Alright, well this isn’t happening to me, but a family member. The family member was on vacation and I was looking over their house while they were gone. This number started calling and leaving messages saying that you have an outstanding debt and they tell you to call a certain number back and enter your case number which they also tell you in the call. Now this is not a real person talking, its a recorded voice. They call themselves, “Accounts Receivable Management” When you call them back they tell you if you type in the number you are responsible for this debt, and if you don’t have your case number you can type in your social security number instead. Were almost positive it has to be a scam, because the family member has no current or past debt. Plus aren’t you supposed to get letters and stuff also in the mail? Since last tuesday, the 5th of March they have called 10 times. If you have any idea what we can do, please let me know. Is there a way we can contact someone to get them to stop calling?

Question: Need advice on materials for graphic design competition?
I am a graphic designer who (unfortunately) works for a large financial institution. There are two other graphic designers who work with me in our department (we work with the marketing department).
The “marketing” people in our department want to submit some campaigns we did last year to a marketing campaign contest. This of coruse largely deals with things we have created for those campaigns.
I was horrified when one of the marketing people sent out an email suggesting we use “3 ring binders and construction paper” as our presenting and mounting materials (no, I am not joking) – oh and wanted to know what color everyone wanted to use for the construction paper (once again, not joking). I sent out a reply email suggesting we should probably use Itoya folders and archival acid-free black paper to mount the pieces on. I really didn’t get a reply back – even the other designers had NO idea what an Itoya folder was (I was once again shocked and horrified). (continued)
I think people took it as an insult that I suggesting something other than a 3 ring binder and construction paper for a professional competition. But good god! Am I overreacting? This really bothers me that professionals would have such poor taste and ignorance about their own field. The fact that everyone responded negatively to my suggestion bothers me as well. I was told “well nobody really cares”.

Is it really appropriate to use a 3 ring binder and construction paper?? I really have my doubts. I don’t plan on fighting them anymroe on it because it’s obvious they want to look like slobs. But I am curious if I am being too nit – picky.

I share your shock and horror. I’ve been a graphic designer for over 20 years, and I’m really dismayed at the lack of knowledge and professionalism exhibited by so many who’ve ordained themselves “graphic designers.” Over the last decade or so, pretty much anyone with access to a computer and some clip art has decided they know how to “design”, resulting in a stunning lack of knowledge and some incredibly shoddy work.

Three-ring binders and construction paper (?!?!?!?) are absolutely NOT acceptable for any contest — unless your competition is a bunch of grade schoolers. Not only do you stand no chance of winning — such a presentation may taint your reputation in the field (it’s a small world, and you may run into some of the judges in the future). Like you, I work for a large financial institution, and I certainly wouldn’t hire anyone who presented their work in such a manner — it screams “amateur”.

My advice? Stick to your guns. If you can find some written guidelines of how designers present entries to this or other competitions — perhaps from a graphic artists’ association — perhaps that will open some eyes.

Question: How can I use paypal to collect payments, than email whats the customers buys. Would I need autoresponder?
I have a business idea for making money online. I am needing to figure out how I could send the information I have to my customers once they pay for it using pay pal. Is there a way to implement the two together using pay pal and email?

1. You will need to have a page where people make payments.
I recommend using Global for your domain, since it allows you to tinker with deep settings. I have a number of websites and those with Global have higher search engine rankings. Globally accessible web pages.

2. You will need to setup where the people that leave their email on your site (before, or during purchase), will then be managed by autoresponder. – you will need to tinker with both website and aweber.

3. This is the autoresponder I recommend:
www.aweber.com/?romka2x
They have great live customer support and a very easy to use interface. They actually guide you through the steps you need to take in order to set this up.

I can help you more, but I’m afraid even this much information will get me in trouble with Y! Answers. It is generally frowned upon when someone comes here with actual offers.
